FAQ

Amy and her first granny, Journey.

Why adopt a senior dog?

Senior dogs have so much love left to give! And it's a different kind of love that's hard to put into words. While they may have a few gray hairs and need a little extra care, they often settle into their new homes quickly and are grateful simply to be loved.

Many senior dogs are already house-trained, have established manners, and are past the high-energy puppy stage. They enjoy quiet moments, cozy beds, leisurely walks, and spending time with the people they love.

Choosing a senior dog means giving a deserving companion the opportunity to enjoy their golden years surrounded by comfort, stability, and unconditional love. At The Vintage Dog, we believe age is never a reason to be overlooked—it simply marks the beginning of another beautiful chapter.

When will The Vintage Dog begin accepting dogs?

The Vintage Dog is currently in its launch phase. We're working behind the scenes to build the strong foundation every senior dog deserves, including developing our foster network, establishing veterinary partnerships, securing essential funding, and completing the final steps to ensure we're prepared to provide the highest level of care.

Rather than rushing to bring dogs into our program, we're committed to being fully ready so every dog we welcome receives the medical care, support, and lifelong commitment they deserve.

Follow us on social media or check back here for updates as we prepare to welcome our first dogs!

How can I support the rescue before dogs arrive?

While we prepare to welcome our first rescue dogs, there are many ways you can help build The Vintage Dog from the ground up. We gratefully accept donations of supplies, support through our Amazon Wishlist, monetary contributions, volunteer help, foster applications, social media shares, and words of encouragement. Every act of support helps us build a strong foundation so we're ready to provide the medical care, comfort, and lifelong commitment every senior dog deserves from the moment they arrive.

We're intentionally taking the time to build our rescue the right way because every dog deserves more than a second chance—they deserve a future they can count on. Thank you for helping us prepare for the stories that are still to come.

Do you have a shelter?

Nope!

We are a foster-based rescue, which allows our dogs to live in loving homes while they wait for their furever families! If you would like to meet one of our dogs, please fill out an adoption application and we will be in touch to set up a meet and greet with their foster family!

How long does the adoption process take?

Every application is reviewed individually. We take the time to ensure each dog is matched with the right family, so the timeline may vary depending on the dog and the application. If the dog has not been medically cleared for adoption yet, there may be a waiting period.

Rest assured, we will be in touch every step of the way so you're kept in the loop!

Can I adopt/foster if I rent my home?

Absolutely. We simply require your landlord's contact information to verify that pets are permitted and that any acceptable breed, size, or pet restrictions are met.

What veterinary care do your dogs receive before adoption?

Every dog receives a thorough veterinary evaluation. Depending on their needs, this may include spay/neuter, vaccinations, bloodwork, dental care, diagnostics, medications surgery or other treatments before adoption.

Do you adopt outside of Colorado?

Yes! We welcome adoption applications from both within and outside of Colorado.

To ensure the best possible match, all prospective adopters must travel to meet the dog in person and complete a meet-and-greet with any current dogs in the household before an adoption can be finalized. We believe taking the time to ensure everyone is a good fit helps set both our dogs and their new families up for success in their next chapter!

Are you accepting foster applications?

Yes! We're currently accepting foster applications as we build our foster network in preparation for our first rescue dogs.

Submitting an application now allows us to get to know potential foster families, complete our review process, and ensure we're ready to place dogs into loving homes as soon as they arrive. There is no obligation to foster immediately, and we'll work with you to determine the best match based on your home, experience, and availability. Head over to the "Our Programs" page to find our application.

We can't wait to welcome you to The Vintage Dog family!

What if I can't adopt or foster, but still want to help?

There are many ways to make a difference! Donations, purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist, sharing our dogs on social media, volunteering, and supporting our fundraisers all help us care for senior dogs in need. We could always use some support behind the scenes as well, if you are a computer wizard!
